Hypocrisy in High Fashion: Michelle Obama's $3,000 Pantsuit at DNC

Michelle Obama, the former First Lady of the United States, took to the stage at the DNC in Chicago, donning a nearly $3,000 pantsuit while lecturing attendees about the dangers of wealth and greed. The irony was palpable as she touted her parents' humble beginnings and their supposed suspicion of the wealthy.

Obama's speech began with a heartwarming tribute to her mother, saying, "She and my father didn't aspire to be wealthy. In fact, they were suspicious of folks who took more than they needed." She continued, "They understood that it wasn't enough for their kids to thrive if everyone else around us was drowning. So my mother volunteered at the local school."

However, Obama's words rang hollow as she stood on stage clad in a black pantsuit jacket by New York fashion designer Monse, priced at $1690. The matching pants had an additional $890 price tag. Oh, and Barack and Michelle have an estimated net worth of about $70 million.

The New York Times fawned over Obama's fashion choice, describing it as "forward" and in line with her message at the DNC. They also praised Obama's stylist, Meredith Koop, for selecting a smaller, independent label like Monse, saying it was "fully in line with Mrs. Obama’s practice... of using her platform to highlight lesser-known businesses (especially fashion businesses) and designers who represent the stories she is telling: about entrepreneurship, the melting pot, the American dream."

Not everyone was impressed by Obama's sartorial splendor. Critics pointed out that it was hypocritical for someone with a net worth of $70 million to lecture others about the dangers of wealth and greed. As one X user quipped, "Getting really tired of multi-millionaires preaching about the evils of money and greed."
