  • The tradition of carving pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns for Halloween originated from an Irish custom of carving turnips and potatoes. When Irish immigrants arrived in America, they found that pumpkins were much easier to carve.

  • Candy Land was invented in 1948 by Eleanor Abbott while she was recovering from polio. The game was designed to entertain children suffering from the disease.

  • IBM introduced the first hard drive in 1956. It weighed over a ton and could hold only 5 MB of data.

  • Many fall festivals feature corn mazes, which have become increasingly elaborate over the years. Some are even designed with intricate patterns or themes visible from above.

  • Quantum computers, still in experimental stages, use qubits instead of bits, potentially allowing them to solve certain problems much faster than classical computers.
